Storming the Capitol: According To Media Reports, The US Department Of Justice Is Investigating Donald Trump

Image
According to the Washington Post, there are indications that the ex-president could be prosecuted. Trump meanwhile again hints at a candidacy for 2024. After the US Congress' committee of inquiry published numerous revelations about the behavior of former President Donald Trump in connection with the storming of the Capitol, the US Department of Justice should now also deal more closely with the circumstances. This is reported by the Washington Post newspaper. The question is whether Attorney General Merrick Garland could take criminal action against Trump. Critics accuse him of being too hesitant to proceed. The newspaper, citing anonymous sources, reported that prosecutors spent hours questioning witnesses before a grand jury about meetings Trump chaired in December 2020 and January 2021. A grand jury is called in to review evidence in possible crime cases and decide whether to press charges. It had previously been assumed that these investigations were primarily related to Trump...

A Conspiracy That Ended In Violence

Image
The investigative committee into the storming of the Capitol has made its findings public. They are shocking - and point to a clear responsible person. The sun sets a suitably dramatic red over Washington, DC as nine members take their seats in a congressional chamber. Traditionally, congressional hearings are held earlier in the morning, but this is no ordinary session -- it's one meant to draw the attention of the entire nation. For the first time in almost a year, the committee of inquiry into the violent storming of the Capitol met in public to present the results of its work to date. "The whole world is looking at us," said the panel's chairman, Democrat Bennie Thompson, in his opening statement.    Above all, however, America looks at itself. In the hours that follow, almost all television stations in the country show live how the committee presents previously unknown material, listens to witnesses and once again demonstrates the hatred with which the supporters...

USA: "I Had No Right To Overturn The Election"

Image
Former US Vice President Mike Pence has publicly attacked Donald Trump for the first time. He described his statements on the storming of the Capitol as "un-American". Former US Vice President Mike Pence has publicly contradicted ex-President Donald Trump for the first time. "I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election. President Trump is wrong, I had no right to overturn the election," Pence said during an appearance in Florida. The idea that one person could elect the President of the United States is "un-American". The Bible-believing Republican was loyal to Trump for four years, but has distanced himself since the Capitol attack. He has long been said to have ambitions for a presidential candidacy. Pence presided over the January 6, 2021 session of Congress where he formally endorsed the results of the presidential election. "Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election,...

Trump Supporters Sentenced To Five Years In Prison

Image
Robert P. is said to have pelted police officers with a wooden board and a fire extinguisher when they stormed the Capitol in early January. Now he has to be imprisoned for five years. A court has imposed the harshest sentence to date against a supporter of then US President Donald Trump. It's about the participation in the storm on the Capitol just under a year ago. Robert P. was therefore sentenced to a prison term of 63 months, i.e. around five years. This is the longest sentence ever imposed on any of the more than 700 people charged in connection with the attack. The public prosecutor accused P. of throwing a wooden board at the police officers, spraying them with a fire extinguisher, and then throwing the empty container at them. The 54-year-old did not make it to the Capitol itself after officials stopped him with pepper spray and rubber bullets. P. said he was very ashamed of his behavior that day. But even with a request for mitigating circumstances because of a difficult ...

Kyle Rittenhouse Case: A Gift For Donald Trump

Image
The then 17-year-old Rittenhouse killed two people and was acquitted of self-defense. It is not his acquittal that is scandalous, but the system. It's easy to forget. To see the US President traditionally pardon turkeys and slowly prepare for Thanksgiving with the family. Undisturbed by politics, injustices and social tensions, which after all are easier to suppress with a Joe Biden instead of a Donald Trump in the White House. But the Kyle Rittenhouse case brings back in the USA what was still the reality on the streets of many American cities last summer and what should not be suppressed. Protests broke out in Kenosha in the US state of Wisconsin in mid-2020 after the black Jacob Blake was shot several times in the back during a police operation. Just a few months earlier, George Floyd had been brutally killed by a police officer in Minneapolis. Anger, frustration and pain over the ongoing structural racism in the country were openly shouted out. " I can't breathe",...
