Giants shook up after 'heartbreaking' leg injury for Sterling Shepard: 'It choked me up'

Image
Sterling Shepard's 2021 season ended early when he tore his left Achilles tendon in a December game against the Dallas Cowboys. On Monday — again against the Cowboys — Shepard appeared to sustain another significant injury. On the final Giants snap of the game, Shepard pulled up on a route and clutched his left knee. He wasn't touched on the play. He fell to the ground in obvious pain and eventually left the field on a cart. The Giants didn't provide a diagnosis after the 23-16 loss. But head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged that "it didn't look good." If it is a season-ending injury, it marks another brutal blow for one of the franchise's most beloved players. Prior to his Achilles tear, Shepard's 2020 campaign was limited to seven games because of injury. Now his comeback appears to be cut short just three games in after he worked to be ready for Week 1. His contract is expiring after he agreed to void the final year of his deal. Shepard's played ...

32 things we learned from Week 3 of 2022 NFL season: Super Bowl, MVP favorites emerging?

Image
T he 32 things we learned from Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season: 1.  Last week, we documented the peril of starting 0-2, only 11.3% of teams since 1990 (when the playoff field expanded from 10 to 12 entries) digging out of that kind of hole to reach the postseason. But 0-3? Even more dire by an order of magnitude. Since 1990, only four of 157 squads (2.5%) to begin 0-3 have made the playoffs – and none of them reached the Super Bowl. 2.  In that vein, the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and reigning AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals are relieved to be off the schneid, all of them winning Sunday. 3.  Ditto the Tennessee Titans, who effectively won an elimination game with the Las Vegas Raiders, who also began Sunday 0-2. Last season, Tennessee was the AFC's No. 1 playoff seed, while Las Vegas earned a wild card. 4.  Dating back to their 2013 season at Fresno State, Raiders QB Derek Carr and WR Davante Adams have connected on a TD ...

HIGHLIGHTS England lost to Australia 0-4 in the previous Ashes England recently beat South Africa 2-1 in a 3-match series England won the 3rd Test by 9 wickets England Test skipper Ben Stokes has set his goals clear for the Ashes next summer. Under Stokes, the Three Lions have been on a rampage, having won six out of seven Tests. On Monday, September 12, England beat South Africa by nine wickets in the third Test at Kennington Oval in London, after which they won the three-match series 2-1. Amidst England’s decent run over the last few months, Stokes hasn’t forgotten their dismal campaign against Australia in the Ashes last year. The British team, then captained by Joe Root, lost the five-match Test series 0-4 and was on the verge of losing the Sydney Test as well, where they evaded defeat by one wicket. England are also scheduled to lock horns with Pakistan later this year in a seven-match T20I series in Karachi and Lahore. "When you know you've got an Ashes coming up very so...
